UAE Launches Global Energy Efficiency Alliance to Double Efficiency Rates by 2030

UAE Launches Global Energy

April 16, 2025, Abu Dhabi – The worldwide Energy Efficiency Alliance (GEEA), a daring new project with the goal of doubling worldwide energy efficiency rates by the end of the decade, has been formally launched by the United Arab Emirates.  Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, the UAE’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, made the news after the alliance was recently approved by the Cabinet.

The initiative aligns with the landmark ‘UAE Consensus’ established at COP28, reinforcing the country’s leadership in global climate action and sustainable development.

Ambitious Vision for a More Efficient Future

“The alliance represents our commitment to delivering innovative solutions and advanced technologies to countries that face challenges in securing funding or accessing the tools needed for energy efficiency,” Al Mazrouei said. “Through GEEA, we aim to catalyze a global shift toward smarter, more sustainable energy consumption.”

GEEA’s mission is rooted in policy harmonization, international collaboration, and technological advancement. By uniting governments, private entities, and research institutions, the alliance seeks to standardize performance metrics, boost knowledge exchange, and empower developing nations with practical tools and training.

Driving Transformation Through Unity

The UAE envisions GEEA as a transformative force in the global energy landscape, with the potential to significantly curb carbon emissions and reduce pressure on natural resources. The alliance will act as a hub for sharing successful models and best practices, particularly those proven in public-private partnerships (PPPs).

“This platform will allow member nations to learn from each other’s successes and align on common metrics to track progress,” Al Mazrouei explained. “The UAE is proud to take a leading role by sharing its own experiences and proven strategies.”

He extended an open invitation to countries and international organizations to join the alliance, emphasizing that “real progress requires collective commitment and shared responsibility.”

Global Collaboration for a Sustainable Tomorrow

The significance of GEEA’s involvement in achieving the climate targets outlined in the Paris Agreement and the UAE Consensus was reiterated by Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs.

“Energy efficiency is a cornerstone of global climate strategy. By building international momentum and aligning efforts, GEEA will be instrumental in driving long-term sustainability,” Al Olama said.

He noted that the UAE would provide technical assistance to alliance members, facilitate cross-border collaboration, and lead training programs to strengthen national capacities in energy management.

With GEEA, the UAE is once again positioning itself at the forefront of global climate leadership—mobilizing innovation, knowledge, and partnerships to power a more efficient and sustainable future.
