Ambassador Dr. Abdulnasser Alshaali meets Chief Minister to discuss key sectors
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has expressed a strong interest in investing in tourism, green energy, and other key sectors in Himachal Pradesh. UAE Ambassador to India, Dr. Abdulnasser Alshaali, met with Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to explore potential collaborations that could boost economic growth and infrastructure development in the state.
During the high-level discussion, the Chief Minister invited UAE investors to explore opportunities in tourism, hospitality, green energy, dairy, food processing, and data storage. He emphasized Himachal Pradesh’s unique investment potential, highlighting its picturesque landscapes, snow-capped mountains, and rich water resources.
Boosting Tourism Infrastructure
The state government is actively enhancing tourism infrastructure to attract global investors. Efforts include the development of multiple ropeways, the expansion of Kangra Airport, and the construction of new four-lane highways and heliports. These initiatives aim to improve connectivity and make Himachal Pradesh a prime investment destination.
Ambassador Alshaali showed particular interest in adventure tourism and skiing, stating that UAE has already identified potential investment locations within the state. He welcomed further site recommendations from the state government to facilitate future investments.
Himachal’s Green Energy Vision
The Chief Minister reiterated Himachal Pradesh’s commitment to becoming a Green Energy State by next year. Over the past two years, the government has taken major strides in environmental protection and sustainable energy development. Key initiatives include the establishment of new solar power projects, the creation of six green corridors, and the phased transition of all state-owned diesel buses to electric vehicles.
Himachal Pradesh holds 25% of India’s hydropower generation capacity, offering significant investment opportunities in hydro and solar energy, as well as pump storage projects. Ambassador Alshaali confirmed UAE’s active involvement in India’s green energy sector and expressed a keen interest in partnering with the Himachal Pradesh government to develop sustainable energy solutions.
Expanding Economic and Urban Development
Beyond tourism and energy, the Chief Minister encouraged UAE investments in natural farming, dairy industries, food processing, and cold storage facilities. He also invited UAE firms to participate in smart city projects and modern urban planning initiatives across various towns in the state.
To expedite collaboration, both parties agreed to appoint nodal officers who will oversee project implementation. A UAE technical team is expected to visit Himachal Pradesh soon to assess potential projects. Following the assessment, further discussions will be held between officials from both sides to accelerate progress.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
The meeting concluded on a positive note, reinforcing the growing economic relationship between the UAE and Himachal Pradesh. The presence of key officials, including Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan and senior representatives from both governments, underscored the significance of these investment discussions.
