In an effort to increase knowledge and investment in these vital areas, the Indonesian government and the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) are looking into new cooperative prospects.
High-Level Talks on Sustainability Collaboration
During a high-level meeting, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, welcomed HE Husin Bagis, Ambassador of Indonesia to the UAE, to discuss potential public-private partnerships and knowledge exchange initiatives. The dialogue underscored the growing UAE-Indonesia cooperation in economic, trade, and investment sectors, with a particular emphasis on renewable energy and water security.
DEWA’s Commitment to Green Energy and Innovation
Al Tayer emphasized DEWA’s noteworthy contributions to the worldwide net-zero targets as well as its accomplishments in decarbonization and greenhouse gas reduction. Through programs like the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, he reaffirmed Dubai’s dedication to sustainability. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the biggest single-site solar park in the world, is a major component of this shift and is essential in promoting the use of renewable energy.

During the discussion, Al Tayer emphasized DEWA’s achievement in luring foreign investors and establishing record-low tariffs for solar energy projects by implementing the Independent Power and Water Producer (IPWP) model. He also described Dubai’s leadership in smart grids, green hydrogen, and circular economy principles, which are in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN and strengthen Dubai’s position as a center for green innovation and investment.

Ambassador Bagis conveyed Indonesia’s strong desire to work with DEWA on water sustainability projects and commended DEWA’s efforts. He underlined how DEWA’s experience in water desalination and sustainable water management might be used as a template for similar initiatives in Indonesia, acknowledging that water shortage is a serious issue, especially in isolated and arid areas.
