U.S. Energy Secretary Highlights Mutual Investment and Sustainable Energy Collaboration During Saudi Visit
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright concluded a high-profile visit to Saudi Arabia, where he met with top officials to discuss strengthening bilateral energy cooperation, promoting mutual investment, and advancing sustainable energy solutions.
Secretary Wright visited the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) in Riyadh, where he met with Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, the Saudi Energy Minister. Expanding cooperation amongst important energy sectors, such as petrochemicals, hydrogen technologies, oil and gas, carbon management, and renewable energy, was the main topic of the talks.
Research and Innovation in Energy Transition
Wright received an overview of KAPSARC’s work on climate change mitigation, energy policy research, and sustainable transportation options. To solve the world’s energy concerns, both parties looked into potential cooperative research projects and knowledge-sharing opportunities.
Strengthening Energy Security and Trade Ties
Speaking at the Saudi Ministry of Energy headquarters, Wright emphasized the importance of long-term energy investments to meet rising global demand. He highlighted the need for stable oil prices to support critical mineral investments and praised Saudi Arabia’s advancements in solar energy and green hydrogen.
“The world’s energy needs are growing, and development timelines are extending,” Wright stated. “Strategic, long-term investments—spanning decades—are essential to ensuring sustainable energy supplies.”
He also addressed U.S. economic policies under President Donald J. Trump, noting a focus on fair trade, domestic job creation, and strategic tariffs to bolster energy and infrastructure investments.
Expanding Mining and Mineral Cooperation
Wright also spoke with Bandar Alkhorayef, the Saudi Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, on strengthening U.S.-Saudi cooperation in the mining industry. The discussions focused on innovative technology, electric vehicle manufacturing, and mineral resources essential to the energy transition.
Alkhorayef invited Wright to attend the Future Minerals Forum in Riyadh next year, underscoring the growing partnership in high-value investments and economic diversification.
A Vision for Future Growth
Wright confirmed that through significant energy and infrastructure projects, changing U.S. political dynamics would hasten economic collaboration with Saudi Arabia and other international partners. He reaffirmed our shared dedication to energy security, innovation, and sustainable development as the cornerstones of future success.
The visit reinforced the strategic energy alliance between the two nations, paving the way for enhanced investment, technological exchange, and joint efforts in the global energy transition.
