New Delhi – July 2025 — Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) has inaugurated a cutting-edge Green Energy Skilling Centre in Rohini, New Delhi, aimed at building a highly skilled workforce to support India’s accelerating clean energy transition. This new centre marks a significant step in Tata Power’s commitment to sustainable development, equipping future professionals with hands-on expertise in solar energy, energy storage, and electrical safety.
A New Hub for Green Energy Training
The Green Energy Skill Centre will offer specialized training in solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, covering everything from installation and commissioning to operations and maintenance. It will also provide courses in energy storage technologies, including pumped hydro storage, as well as essential modules on electrical safety—vital for today’s renewable energy professionals.
The centre was officially inaugurated by Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), alongside Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Power. The launch ceremony was attended by senior officials from MNRE, NITI Aayog, REC, the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), and representatives from Tata Power and Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd.
Bridging the Skills Gap in Renewable Energy
TPSDI’s programs are designed to align with national goals, including the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, and contribute to India’s ambitious targets for clean energy and sustainability. As a dual-awarding body affiliated with NCVET, TPSDI integrates the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) and recognized Qualification Packs (QPs) to ensure learners receive industry-ready certifications.
Currently, the institute offers over 200 modular training courses in green energy, power systems, safety, transmission and distribution, and soft skills. To date, TPSDI has trained over 343,000 individuals across 1.3 million person-days, including more than 50,000 people from underprivileged backgrounds and over 18,000 women—demonstrating its focus on inclusive growth.
Expanding Footprint Across India and Beyond
The Rohini Centre becomes TPSDI’s 12th full-fledged hub in India. Other major centres are located in Gujarat (Mundra), Maharashtra (Shahad, Trombay, Vidyavihar), Kerala (Wayanad), and Jharkhand (Maithon, Jojobera). TPSDI also operates five regional spokes across Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu. The institute has ambitious plans to launch additional hubs in Delhi, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, and Cuttack, with eight new centres scheduled for rollout this year alone.
TPSDI’s reach extends to over 43 locations, including international training initiatives in Bhutan, Ethiopia, and Liberia. In states like Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan, its Green Energy Skilling Centres are actively preparing youth in areas such as solar system design, installation, wind energy, hydroelectric systems, and green hydrogen technologies.
Innovative Learning, Recognized Standards
A key differentiator for TPSDI is its advanced training methodology. The institute blends real-life industrial setups with virtual reality tools, simulators, and remote learning through its Virtual Academy of Skills. This approach ensures that trainees are equipped with practical knowledge, industry exposure, and digital fluency.
The institute is recognized by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), certified under ISO 21001:2018, and maintains affiliations with both the Power Sector Skill Council (PSSC) and the Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ). These credentials solidify TPSDI’s position as one of India’s most reputable private training providers in the energy space.
