Sony Middle East and Africa has completed a new 391.2kWp solar energy installation at its regional headquarters in Jebel Ali Free Zone, marking another step in the company’s long-term sustainability strategy across the Middle East and Africa.
The solar project, located at the company’s Dubai facility in Jafza, is expected to supply nearly 40% of the site’s electricity needs while cutting approximately 235 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
Sony MEA, which has maintained operations in Jafza for more than three decades, said the headquarters continues to serve as a strategic centre for regional management, business coordination and market expansion throughout the Middle East and Africa.
The company confirmed that the solar system has been designed for a 25-year operational lifespan and forms part of Sony’s wider environmental commitments under its global “Road to Zero” initiative and Green Management 2030 programme.
Road to Zero outlines Sony’s ambition to eliminate its environmental footprint by 2050, while Green Management 2030 establishes medium-term sustainability targets aimed at accelerating progress toward that goal.
According to Sony MEA, the installation will reduce dependence on conventional grid electricity while strengthening renewable energy integration at a site that supports the company’s regional commercial and operational activities.
Jobin Joejoe, Managing Director of Sony MEA, said the project reflects the company’s broader commitment to sustainable growth in the region.
He stated that incorporating renewable energy into operations allows the company to lower its environmental impact while supporting long-term regional development objectives.
Sony MEA also linked the initiative to the UAE’s national sustainability agenda and the country’s expanding clean energy and solar power programmes.
Officials at Jafza welcomed the investment, describing it as part of ongoing efforts to encourage environmentally responsible infrastructure projects within the free zone.
Abdulla Al Hashmi said Sony MEA’s latest clean energy investment strengthens a partnership that has continued for more than 30 years.
Al Hashmi added that Jafza remains focused on supporting projects that reduce carbon emissions and align with the UAE’s broader clean energy ambitions, while helping businesses expand responsibly.
Sony MEA noted that the Dubai headquarters remains central to coordination and operations across the Middle East and Africa, with the new solar installation providing a dedicated renewable power source for daily business activities.
The company added that the project not only delivers measurable reductions in emissions but also reinforces Dubai’s role as a long-term strategic base for Sony’s regional growth and investment plans.
