Sharjah announced on October 13 the beginning of two large irrigation projects that will increase the amount of water available for parks and green areas around the emirate. These initiatives are a part of larger initiatives to guarantee cultivated zones have sustainable irrigation sources and to support the city’s agricultural ambitions.
Al Qarain Pumping Station Extension
Increasing the Al Qarain pumping station’s capacity is one of the main goals. The daily production of the station will be raised from 30,000 to 100,000 cubic meters. This significant extension is intended to satisfy the rising water needs brought on by Sharjah’s quick urbanization. In addition, the increased capacity will be vital to the emirate’s numerous current projects, guaranteeing a reliable and effective supply of water.
The Al-Budaiya Pumping Station is new.
Sharjah has started building a new pumping station in the Al-Budaiya neighborhood in addition to the expansion at Al Qarain. This station is a major development for the emirate, capable of producing 36,000 cubic meters (9.5 million gallons) of treated irrigation water each day. The Director of Technical Services at Sharjah City Municipality, Khalifa bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, claims that a new pipeline has been extended 22.5 kilometers from the Al-Budaiya station to the Al-Musnad area.
For dependable and seamless water distribution throughout important regions, the Al-Budaiya station also has a 2,000 cubic meter (520,000 gallon) storage tank with highly efficient pumps.

In line with the municipality’s yearly agricultural plans, Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji, Director-General of Sharjah Municipality, underlined the significance of these additional stations in providing irrigation water to both present and future crop zones. Khalifa bin Hadda Al Suwaidi verified the completion of both projects, pointing out that the technical team of the municipality worked quickly and to a high standard. The Sanitation Department’s Director, Jaafar Ali Jaafar, emphasized the importance of several important groups working together to successfully complete these projects. Among them were the Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority, the General Directorate of the Amiri Guard, and the General Command of Sharjah Police.
Sharjah’s efforts to improve its green infrastructure reached a significant milestone when Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji, municipality directors, and representatives from several government ministries and organizations attended the project launch.
