Saudi Arabia expanded its operational renewable energy capacity by 88% year-on-year, reaching 12,313 megawatts by the end of 2025, according to the General Authority for Statistics.
GASTAT’s Renewable Energy Statistics 2025 report showed that five new solar projects entered service during the year, adding a combined 5,762MW. Their launch brought the Kingdom’s total number of operational renewable energy projects to 15.
Total investment in operational renewable energy developments reached approximately $9.63 billion. The five projects commissioned in 2025 attracted about $4.34 billion, representing 45% of the cumulative investment.
Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy sector also recorded competitive generation costs. The weighted average production cost across operational projects was 6.60 halalas per kilowatt-hour.
Al-Hanakiyah 1 achieved the lowest average cost at 6.30 halalas per kWh, while Al-Rass 2 followed at 6.34 halalas per kWh, highlighting the efficiency of the Kingdom’s newer solar projects.
Operational renewable energy facilities were estimated to supply electricity to around 2.08 million homes by the end of 2025. The five projects launched during the year alone are expected to power approximately 939,000 homes.
This represents an 82.3% increase from 2024 in the estimated number of housing units supplied by newly operational projects.
