Announced for the Revolutionary Initiative are Preferred Suppliers and Contractors
The proposed suppliers and contractors for the world’s first massive, round-the-clock gigascale renewable energy project have been revealed by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), a leader in the UAE’s clean energy industry. The innovative project, which will be created in Abu Dhabi, intends to completely transform the clean energy market.
Project Specifics Disclosed at ADSW
The concept, which was revealed during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), aims to combine cutting-edge battery storage technology with solar photovoltaic (PV) power. This creative solution solves intermittent power, one of the biggest problems with renewable energy, and guarantees a smooth flow of electricity all day, every day.
World-Class Technological Leaders Joining
Globally renowned producers of PV modules, JA Solar and Jinko Solar, have been designated as Masdar’s preferred suppliers. Advanced battery solutions will also be provided by CATL, the biggest battery manufacturer in the world. For this large-scale project, Larsen & Toubro and Powerchina have been chosen as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractors.
Partnership Is Marked by a Special Ceremony
Letters of Award were formally signed during ADSW during a ceremony at the Masdar Pavilion. Masdar’s Chief Operating Officer, Abdulaziz Alobaidli, signed on the company’s behalf. Senior officials from Larsen & Toubro and Powerchina were also present.
Largest Scale and Capacity Ever
Up to 1 gigawatt (GW) of renewable baseload power would be provided by the project, which was developed in partnership with Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC). It is the largest of its kind in the world, with a 5.2GW (DC) solar PV array and a 19-gigawatt-hour (GWh) battery energy storage system (BESS).
An Important Development in Clean Energy
“This record-breaking initiative with EWEC is a monumental step in addressing the intermittency challenges of renewables,” said Abdulaziz Alobaidli, emphasizing the importance of the project. Our goal is to establish a new worldwide standard for sustainable energy innovation by collaborating with leading suppliers and contractors.
Modern Technology Guarantees Effectiveness
2.6GW of PV modules with cutting-edge TopCon technology will be supplied by JA Solar and Jinko Solar, respectively. These modules have a 30-year operational lifespan and are tuned for maximum efficiency. Long-term success will be ensured by the 19GWh BESS’s stability, high efficiency, and dependability thanks to CATL’s cutting-edge TENER battery technology.
Endorsing the UAE’s 2050 Energy Strategy
The UAE Consensus at COP28 and the country’s Energy Strategy 2050 are both perfectly aligned with this initiative. The project strengthens grid stability and energy reliability by combining large-scale solar and BESS technologies, thereby reaffirming the UAE’s leadership in sustainability and clean energy revolution.
