Major Financial Milestones Drive Growth
Through the deployment of around AED30 billion in equity investments and the acquisition of over AED16.5 billion in project financing across nine countries, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) has solidified its position as a global leader in renewable energy. These achievements highlight Masdar’s resolve to accelerate the global energy transition and diversify its renewable energy sources.
A Legacy of Sustainability and Expansion
Since its inception in 2006, Masdar has been a driving force in advancing the UAE’s sustainability and climate action agenda. Operating in more than 40 countries, the company aims to expand its portfolio capacity to 100GW by 2030.
Strategic Acquisitions and Global Reach
Masdar’s expansion has been further accelerated by strategic acquisitions in Greece, Spain, and the United States, which have strengthened the company’s position in both Europe and North America. The business has also started work on seven major projects across the globe, including two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in the UK, two solar projects in Azerbaijan with a combined capacity of 760MW, and the 1.5GW Al Ajban Solar Project in the United Arab Emirates.
Key Projects and Financial Milestones
Masdar also achieved financial closure on six major projects, including Azerbaijan’s 760MW Bilasuvar and Neftchala solar projects, the 1.1GW Al Henakiyah Solar Power Plant, and the Amaala sustainable multi-utility project in Saudi Arabia.
Strengthening the Renewable Energy Landscape
Further expanding its global footprint, Masdar signed a power purchase agreement in December 2024 for the 2GW Sadawi project in Saudi Arabia and inaugurated the 500MW Zarafshan Wind Farm in Uzbekistan—the largest operational wind project in Central Asia.
Future Goals and Commitment to Climate Neutrality
Masdar is a key player in the UAE’s aspiration to become the largest developer, owner, and operator of renewable energy and green hydrogen in the world, with plans to raise the output capacity of its project portfolio to 51GW by the end of 2024. The business is still dedicated to helping countries all over the world reach their carbon neutrality goals.
