Increasing Cooperation on Renewable Initiatives
Through increased efforts in solar, wind, and green hydrogen projects, Masdar, the state-owned renewable energy firm of the United Arab Emirates, is strengthening its partnership with Indonesia. This action comes after Airlangga Hartarto, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, met with Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, the CEO of Masdar, in Dubai.
The Cirata Floating Solar Plant is a historic undertaking.
In Purwakarta, West Java, the Cirata floating solar power plant is a major focus of the collaboration. The facility, which was created in collaboration with Indonesia’s state-owned electrical company, PT PLN, is the biggest of its kind in Southeast Asia. It started operating in November 2023. The 192 MWp facility, which provides electricity to almost 50,000 families, demonstrates Indonesia’s dedication to sustainable energy. Highlighting the importance of the initiative, Airlangga said, “This cooperation demonstrates Masdar’s dedication to advancing renewable energy in Indonesia.”
Possible Growth of the Cirata Plant
There are already plans to greatly increase the capacity of the Cirata solar facility. Future stages could see an expansion to more than 1,000 MWp from the current 6,200-hectare reservoir. After a Joint Development Study Agreement was signed last year, the Phase II expansion has begun.
Initiatives for Renewable Energy in the Capital City of Nusantara
Additionally, Masdar is working on a number of renewable energy projects, such as solar, wind, geothermal, and green hydrogen, in partnership with PT PLN and Indonesia’s state energy company, Pertamina. One significant project is a 200 MW renewable energy plant that is anticipated to be finished soon in Indonesia’s future Nusantara Capital City (IKN).
