Kuwait City: Kuwait is moving forward with several key energy and infrastructure projects, including a major solar power development and a large-scale independent water and power project (IWPP), as the country accelerates its transition toward sustainable energy generation.
According to local reports, financial bids for the 1.1-gigawatt (GW) Al Dibdibah Power and Al Shagaya Renewable Energy Phase III – Zone 1 Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Project are expected to be opened this week following the completion of technical evaluations.
The successful bidder will be announced after all regulatory requirements are fulfilled and approval is secured from the State Audit Bureau.
Earlier reports indicated that the Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP) had shortlisted three consortiums led by ACWA Power, Masdar, and EDF Renewables, which submitted technical proposals for the landmark solar project.
Evaluation Underway for Al Khairan IWPP
In a separate development, KAPP is currently assessing bids submitted for the Al Khairan Phase 1 Independent Water and Power Producer (IWPP) Project. Technical bids were opened on 1 June, and the evaluation process remains ongoing.
The integrated project includes the construction of a 1,800-megawatt power plant alongside a 125 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) desalination facility, making it one of Kuwait’s most significant utility infrastructure initiatives.
July Deadline Set for Shagaya Phase III Zone 2
Meanwhile, KAPP has announced 26 July as the deadline for bid submissions for the 500-megawatt Al Dibdibah Power and Al Shagaya Renewable Energy Phase III – Zone 2 Project.
The latest developments highlight Kuwait’s continued efforts to expand its renewable energy portfolio while strengthening the country’s power generation and water desalination capacity to meet future demand.
