The Honorable The Abu Dhabi Executive Council Chairman and Crown Prince, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, was present for the signing of a strategic alliance between ExxonMobil Corporation and the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). ADNOC will purchase a 35% ownership share in ExxonMobil’s proposed low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia production facility located in Baytown, Texas, USA, as a result of this agreement.
Cooperation to Enhance the UAE’s Global Clean Energy Position
Sheikh Khaled underlined how important this partnership is to strengthening the UAE’s efforts to guarantee the stability and sustainability of the world energy market. He emphasized that the collaboration would strengthen the United Arab Emirates‘ position as a major global producer and supplier of hydrogen with minimal carbon emissions.
Conformity to the UAE’s Clean Energy Investment Vision
The Crown Prince reaffirmed that the construction of this plant is consistent with the aim of the UAE leadership to support and finance renewable energy initiatives on a national and international level. This project is in line with larger objectives to promote sustainable energy sources.
Significant Investment in the Transition to a Global Energy System
The strategic partnership contributes to the global shift toward cleaner energy sources and represents a sizable investment in the US energy industry. The initiative intends to address the growing demand for low-carbon fuels and accelerate the transition to a net-zero future while reducing greenhouse gas emissions in sectors like manufacturing, energy, and transportation that are historically difficult to decarbonize.
Establishment to Become World’s Greatest Producer of Low-Carbon Hydrogen
When it opens, the facility is expected to become the largest low-carbon hydrogen production site in the world, pending regulatory permissions and supportive government policies. Up to 1 billion cubic feet of low-carbon hydrogen, with 98% of carbon dioxide removed, are anticipated to be produced daily. Additionally, the plant will produce more than a million tonnes of low-carbon ammonia a year. The facility is expected to launch in 2029, with a final investment decision (FID) expected in 2025.
ADNOC’s Dedication to Growing Its Portfolio of Low-Carbon Energy
The Honorable The investment, according to Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNOC, is an essential step in the company’s plan to diversify its sources of low-carbon energy. Dr. Al Jaber conveyed his excitement about working with ExxonMobil on this cutting-edge, low-carbon intensity initiative, which will assist decarbonize high-emitting industries and satisfy the growing demand for cleaner energy worldwide.
Applied Cutting-Edge Carbon Capture and Storage Technology
