Jordan Advances Renewable Energy Goals with EPC Contract for Masdar-Backed Wind Farm

Jordan has moved forward with its renewable energy expansion by signing an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for a new 25-megawatt (MW) wind power project in the Batn Al Ghul area of Ma’an Governorate. The project represents another milestone in the country’s strategy to diversify its energy mix, reduce reliance on imported fuels, and accelerate the transition toward cleaner electricity generation.

The agreement was signed by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) through Samra Electric Power Generation Company (SEPCO), with Al Mawakea General Contracting Technology Company selected as the EPC contractor responsible for designing, procuring, and constructing the wind farm.

Located in southern Jordan, the Batn Al Ghul region offers favorable wind conditions that make it well suited for utility-scale renewable energy projects. Once completed, the 25MW facility is expected to contribute additional clean electricity to Jordan’s national grid while supporting the country’s long-term sustainability and energy security objectives.

The project is being developed under a co-operation agreement signed in February 2026 between Jordan’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar). The partnership reflects growing regional collaboration in renewable energy development, with Masdar continuing to expand its portfolio of clean energy investments across the Middle East.

Masdar, one of the region’s leading renewable energy developers, has played a significant role in delivering utility-scale solar and wind projects in multiple countries. Its involvement in the Jordanian wind farm is expected to bring international expertise in renewable energy engineering, project management, and sustainable infrastructure development.

As the EPC contractor, Al Mawakea General Contracting Technology Company will oversee the construction phase, including civil works, installation of wind turbines, electrical systems, and grid integration. SEPCO will supervise the implementation process to ensure the project is delivered according to technical specifications, safety standards, and the agreed timeline.

Jordan has steadily increased investments in renewable energy over the past decade as part of its efforts to strengthen energy independence and reduce carbon emissions. Wind and solar projects have become central components of the country’s energy strategy, helping diversify electricity generation while supporting national climate commitments.

The Batn Al Ghul wind project is expected to enhance Jordan’s renewable energy capacity and reinforce cooperation with regional partners on sustainable infrastructure. Once operational, the facility will generate clean electricity, contribute to lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and support the country’s broader transition toward a more resilient and environmentally sustainable energy sector.

The signing of the EPC contract marks the beginning of the project’s implementation phase and underscores Jordan’s continued commitment to expanding renewable energy infrastructure through strategic partnerships with experienced international and regional developers.
