The Net Zero Carbon Certification of Mashreq
The US Green Building Council has certified Mashreq Global Headquarters in Downtown Dubai as LEED Zero Carbon, demonstrating the company’s dedication to achieving Net Zero carbon emissions through sustainable operations and design. In line with Mashreq’s objective of achieving Net Zero status for its worldwide headquarters by putting an emphasis on energy efficiency and lowering carbon production, this certification was obtained in collaboration with JLL.
Reaching Net Zero with Efficiency and Carbon Offset
By avoiding or offsetting carbon emissions from the building’s yearly operational energy use and occupant transportation over the course of a year, Mashreq’s headquarters was able to achieve Net Zero carbon status. As a result of this endeavour, the bank’s carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) balance is zero, proving its effective dedication to environmentally responsible business operations.
Acknowledgement of Ecological Methods
After obtaining its LEED Zero Energy accreditation the previous year, Mashreq’s list of environmental accomplishments now includes the latest LEED Zero Carbon certification. The L-shaped structure covered in stone has already received recognition for its attempts to reduce waste, water, and energy usage. Furthermore, the Mashreq Global Headquarters was recognised as a leader in sustainability in 2022 when it received the LEED for Operations and Maintenance (O+M) Gold accreditation.
JLL’s Contribution to Mashreq’s Sustainable Development
Mashreq’s offices are an excellent example of environmental stewardship, according to Darren Denikiewicz, Head of Engineering & Energy, Project & Development Services UAE at JLL. He also highlighted the bank’s leadership in sustainability in the UAE and the wider MENA region. He emphasised how JLL’s creative approaches to cutting carbon emissions help Mashreq achieve its Net Zero objectives. Denikiewicz acknowledged the beneficial social effects of green buildings and voiced hope that more regional projects may obtain certifications like to LEED Zero.

The LEED Zero Carbon accreditation is evidence of Mashreq’s commitment to fulfilling international sustainability standards, according to Bassem Fekry Farid, Executive Vice President and Head of Corporate Real Estate & Administration at Mashreq. He emphasised the significance of moving towards a low-energy, low-carbon future and how the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 objective is aligned with openly tracking energy use and relying on renewable resources.
