In a major milestone for renewable energy development in the Caucasus region, JA Solar, a global leader in photovoltaic technology, has been chosen to supply 1 gigawatt (GW) of its cutting-edge DeepBlue 4.0 Pro solar modules for two of Azerbaijan’s largest utility-scale solar power projects—Banka and Bilasuvar. The projects are being spearheaded by Masdar, the UAE’s premier clean energy developer, in a strategic collaboration that underscores the growing energy partnership between the UAE and Azerbaijan.
Largest Solar Installations in Azerbaijan’s History
Set to become the largest utility-scale solar developments in Azerbaijan, the Banka and Bilasuvar solar farms are poised to transform the country’s energy mix. Once operational, the two sites are projected to generate approximately 1.53 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually, displacing an estimated 1.15 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year.
These projects align with Azerbaijan’s national strategy to diversify its energy resources, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and meet ambitious renewable energy targets in the lead-up to its hosting of COP29 later this year.
High-Performance Solar Modules for Demanding Environments
JA Solar’s DeepBlue 4.0 Pro modules were selected for their advanced engineering and performance in harsh conditions. Designed to withstand high humidity, salt corrosion, strong winds, and dust, the modules are ideally suited for Azerbaijan’s varied and often challenging coastal environments.
The DeepBlue 4.0 Pro modules boast high durability and long-term performance stability, while also offering improved energy yield and helping reduce the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE)—a key consideration for large-scale renewable projects.
