In a landmark development for Africa’s renewable energy landscape, GameChange Solar has signed a major agreement to supply 1.25 gigawatts (GW) of its Genius Tracker™ technology for the Abydos II Solar PV Plant in Egypt. The deal, sealed with engineering giant CEEC-ZTPC, marks a significant expansion of GameChange Solar’s footprint in the region and underlines Egypt’s accelerating push toward a greener energy mix.
The project is being developed by AMEA Power and constructed by CEEC-ZTPC, forming the second phase of the broader Abydos Solar initiative. Once completed, the site will integrate 1 GWac of solar photovoltaic generation with a 600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS)—positioning it as one of the largest solar-plus-storage installations on the African continent.
Supporting Egypt’s Renewable Energy Ambitions
This new contract brings GameChange Solar’s total supplied capacity in Egypt to nearly 3 GW, reinforcing the company’s role as a key technology provider in North Africa’s solar boom. The Abydos II facility, scheduled for commissioning in May 2026, will span over 20 square kilometers in Egypt’s Aswan Governorate.
With an expected annual output of 3,000 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean electricity, the plant will be capable of powering more than 500,000 homes. It will also prevent the emission of over 1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide each year—contributing significantly to Egypt’s target of sourcing 42% of its electricity from renewables by 2030.
A Continued Partnership for Clean Energy
