EMSTEEL and Yellow Door Energy Forge Landmark Partnership for UAE’s Largest Industrial Solar Rooftop Project

EMSTEEL and Yellow Door

Abu Dhabi, UAE – In a bold move towards sustainable manufacturing, EMSTEEL Group (ADX: EMSTEEL), one of the region’s largest publicly traded steel and building materials manufacturers, has partnered with Yellow Door Energy, a leading sustainable energy provider in the Middle East and Africa, to develop the UAE’s most extensive industrial solar photovoltaic (PV) rooftop project.

EMSTEEL’s dedication to energy sustainability and self-sufficiency will be strengthened by the 31.5 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar project, which will supply renewable energy to power the company’s facilities.  This program is essential to EMSTEEL’s larger decarbonization initiatives and is in line with the UAE’s ambitious Net Zero by 2050 vision.

The agreement states that Yellow Door Energy would finance, build, own, run, and maintain 40 rooftop solar panels at EMSTEEL’s buildings in the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi (ICAD 1).  In order to optimize energy output, the project will combine carport and rooftop installations with bifacial and high-efficiency solar panels.

Once operational, the project is expected to generate approximately 50 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean electricity annually, reducing around 16,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions per year for the next 25 years. The 100% self-consumed renewable energy will help lower operational costs while significantly decreasing EMSTEEL’s carbon footprint.

Leadership Comments on Sustainability Commitment

Engineer Saeed Ghumran Saeed Al Remeithi, Group CEO of EMSTEEL, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing, stating:

“Sustainability is at the heart of EMSTEEL’s strategy. Advancing our decarbonization efforts remains a top priority as we shape the future of industrial sustainability. Our partnership with Yellow Door Energy marks a pivotal step in implementing our decarbonization strategy by integrating renewable energy solutions into our operations. Through on-site solar power generation, we are not only reducing our carbon footprint but also supporting the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 vision.”

Jeremy Crane, Group CEO of Yellow Door Energy, highlighted the significance of the project:

“We are proud to partner with EMSTEEL in this landmark solar lease agreement, helping them transition to clean energy while achieving substantial cost savings. With a total capacity of 31.5 MWp, this project demonstrates the immense potential of solar energy in powering key industrial sectors across the UAE. As a UAE-founded company, we remain dedicated to helping businesses lower energy costs and decarbonize their operations.”

Construction Timeline and Long-Term Goals

The solar PV system is expected to start construction in 2025 and be commissioned in 2026. Yellow Door Energy will manage the entire project, saving EMSTEEL money up front and guaranteeing a smooth launch. With the help of this solar lease model, EMSTEEL may take use of clean energy without taking on operational risks, letting it to concentrate on its primary manufacturing tasks while achieving sustainability goals.

Using 2019 as a baseline, EMSTEEL has set aggressive environmental goals as part of its complete decarbonization strategy, such as reducing absolute greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in its Steel Business Unit by 40% and its Cement Business Unit by 30% by 2030.  Achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 is the ultimate objective, securing EMSTEEL’s position as a pioneer in industrial sustainability.

This landmark partnership between EMSTEEL and Yellow Door Energy underscores the transformative power of renewable energy in driving industrial efficiency, cost savings, and environmental responsibility in the UAE’s manufacturing sector.
