The Emirates Group has announced plans to relocate its data centre operations to Moro Hub, located within the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, in a ground-breaking step towards sustainability. This calculated move strengthens Dubai’s position as a world leader in sustainable innovation and demonstrates the Group’s dedication to environmental responsibility.
Utilising Solar Energy to Reduce Carbon Emissions
With Moro Hub, the largest solar-powered data centre officially recognised by Guinness World RecordsTM, the Emirates Group will be able to drastically reduce its carbon impact. The Group is in line with Dubai’s ambitious environmental initiatives, such as the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, by moving its digital infrastructure.
A Strategic Agreement for Technological Advancement
The agreement, formalized in the presence of Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), was signed by Michael Doersam, Emirates Group’s Chief Financial & Group Services Officer, and Marwan Bin Haidar, Vice Chairman & Group CEO of Digital DEWA. The transition is set to commence by mid-2026, marking a significant technological upgrade for the Emirates Group.
Leadership Perspective on Sustainability and Growth
Commenting on the initiative, Al Tayer emphasized Dubai’s vision for sustainable digital transformation, stating, “Under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai continues to lead in sustainable innovation, reinforcing its commitment to green energy and technological excellence.”
Doersam highlighted the partnership’s alignment with the Group’s long-term goals, saying, “This collaboration with Moro Hub represents a pivotal step in enhancing our technological capabilities while prioritizing sustainability. By shifting our operations to a solar-powered data center, we not only future-proof our infrastructure but also actively contribute to reducing our environmental impact.”
Harnessing Renewable Energy for a Greener Future
In addition to providing cutting-edge co-location services including electricity, cooling, and rack space, Moro Hub will give the Emirates Group yearly access to almost 3,000MW of renewable energy. This change strengthens Dubai’s standing as a global centre for renewable energy and technical innovation and reaffirms the Group’s proactive approach to sustainability.
