His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the EEA and Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, provided insights into the program, emphasizing the role of students in accomplishing sustainability goals. “Students’ active engagement is crucial in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals,” he said. Al Tayer highlighted the Award’s proactive strategy for staying abreast of developments in renewable energy, which is consistent with the UAE’s leadership agenda. Increasing Carbon Neutrality: The Fifth Edition of the EEA’s Theme

Award-winning projects were included in the 2017 edition, such as the 5 MW solar power project in Jordan from Hashemite University, which won in the Distributed Solar Generation Large Scale category. Other projects that received awards demonstrated the universities’ commitment to developing renewable energy solutions, such as the solar tri-generation system at Al-Balqa Applied University and the Smart Public Utilities Measurement System at the American University of Sharjah. Other noteworthy projects were the Sustainable Green Park by Al-Zaytoonah University in Jordan and the Solar Energy Capacity Building Center by Bethel Business and Community Development Center in Lesotho.
