Emerge to Build a TIP Solar PV Plant
A 13.25 megawatt peak (MWp) solar photovoltaic (PV) plant will be developed and installed at Tawazun Industrial Park (TIP) by Emerge, a joint venture between Masdar and the EDF Group. The UAE’s continuous efforts to incorporate renewable energy into strategic and industrial sectors are reflected in the agreement, which was inked during the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX 2025) in Abu Dhabi.
Formalised at IDEX 2025, the agreement
Ali Alshimmari, Head of Strategic & Special Projects at Masdar, and Aurelien Delahaye, Deputy CEO for the Middle East at EDF, were present at the signing event. In order to further solidify their cooperation on sustainable energy solutions, Emerge General Manager Michel Abi Saab and Tawazun Industrial Park CEO Eng. Faiz Al Nahdi inked the agreement.
Environmental Impact and Project Components
A 1.75MWp solar carport installation and an 11.5MWp ground-mounted system will make up the solar PV facility. The project is anticipated to offset 14,064 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions per year once it is operational. This decrease is the equivalent of more than 25% of TIP’s present residents lowering their carbon footprint. It is anticipated that construction would start in late 2025.
Dedication to Sustainable Industrial Development
Engineer Faiz Al Nahdi highlighted the project’s contribution to the advancement of sustainable industrial growth. “A vital step in incorporating clean energy solutions into Tawazun Industrial Park is our partnership with Emerge. This project demonstrates our dedication to reducing our negative effects on the environment while creating a cutting-edge, contemporary industrial centre,” he said.
Emerge’s Sustainability Vision
Emerge’s general manager, Michel Abi Saab, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to TIP’s sustainability objectives. We are honoured to demonstrate the value we offer as an energy services provider in collaboration with Tawazun Industrial Park. Without requiring an initial financial outlay, our turnkey solutions enable companies like TIP to make the shift to a sustainable future,” he said.
Project Lifecycle and BOOT Agreement
According to the Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) concept, the project will be constructed. In order to ensure long-term sustainability and efficiency, Emerge will supervise the full project lifespan, including funding, design, procurement, construction, operation, and maintenance over a period of 25 years.
The Growing Contribution of Emerge to Renewable Energy
Emerge has been at the forefront of distributed solar, energy efficiency, street lighting, battery storage, off-grid solar, and hybrid solutions for commercial and industrial clients since its founding in 2021 as a joint venture between Masdar and EDF. The company quadrupled its operating solar capacity to 30MW in 2024, providing sustainable energy to 38 locations in the UAE’s varied sectors.
Complementing the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 Plan
The UAE’s commitment to sustainability and clean energy adoption is strengthened by the solar project at Tawazun Industrial Park, which is in line with the country’s Net Zero by 2050 Strategy. This initiative is yet another important step in the direction of lowering carbon emissions and creating a more environmentally friendly industrial landscape for the nation.
