Emerge, a joint venture between Masdar and the EDF Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Emirates Development Bank (EDB) to drive the development and financing of distributed solar energy projects across the UAE.
The agreement aims to accelerate renewable energy adoption in the commercial and industrial sectors, combining Emerge’s technical expertise with EDB’s financial solutions to make clean energy projects more accessible and cost-effective.
Identifying Projects and Unlocking Finance
Under the MoU, Emerge will identify potential renewable energy opportunities for businesses in sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). EDB, in turn, will evaluate and provide tailored financing packages to support project implementation.
His Excellency Ahmed Mohamed Al Naqbi, CEO of EDB, said the partnership was designed to deliver “practical solutions” that merge innovative energy technology with flexible financing. This approach, he added, would enable businesses to reduce operational costs, enhance resilience, and remain competitive in an evolving market.
Supporting UAE’s Clean Energy Ambitions
Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, highlighted that Emerge’s client-focused strategy already helps companies cut energy expenses while advancing their sustainability goals. “By working with EDB, we can ensure greater access to financing, making it easier for organisations to adopt renewable energy and meet the UAE’s clean energy targets,” he said.
Luc Koechlin, CEO Middle East at EDF Group, echoed this sentiment, noting that the partnership will merge Emerge’s innovative clean energy solutions with EDB’s strong financial capabilities. “Together, we can deliver impactful projects that align with the UAE’s sustainability agenda and industrial growth objectives,” he said.
Expanding the Distributed Solar Footprint
Formed in 2021, Emerge specialises in developing distributed solar power, battery storage, off-grid solar, and hybrid solutions for commercial and industrial clients. The company currently supplies clean electricity to more than 40 sites across the GCC, helping businesses transition to low-carbon operations.
With the new collaboration, both Emerge and EDB aim to expand the availability of distributed solar solutions in the UAE, offering businesses a pathway to achieve both environmental responsibility and long-term cost savings.
