Emerge, the clean energy joint venture between Masdar and France’s EDF, is scaling up its presence across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) through a series of strategic solar and energy storage initiatives. The company is reinforcing its position as a leading provider of turnkey renewable energy solutions for commercial, industrial, educational, and hospitality sectors throughout the region.
Powering Saudi Arabia’s Clean Energy Push
In Saudi Arabia, Emerge has signed a 20-year agreement with Misk City, located northwest of Riyadh. The project involves the development of a 621 kWp rooftop and canopy-mounted solar photovoltaic system. This installation supports the Kingdom’s sustainability ambitions while enhancing energy efficiency for the city’s infrastructure.
Emerge is also partnering with Nahdi Medical Company, Saudi Arabia’s largest retail pharmacy chain. Under the agreement, the company will design, finance, construct, and operate a 3 MW rooftop solar system at Nahdi’s Imdad Distribution Center. The project is projected to reduce over 3,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually—an impact equivalent to the annual energy use of approximately 625 homes.
Additional Saudi-based projects include a 3 MW solar installation for Al Tanmia Food Company at its Haradh facility, and solar system deployments across three sites operated by Al Andalus Property Company in Riyadh and Jeddah.
Expanding Hybrid Projects in the UAE
In the UAE, Emerge is diversifying its approach with hybrid energy solutions. A key development includes a partnership with Turbotem in Ras Al Khaimah to deploy a 1.52 MW rooftop solar system integrated with a 5 MWh battery storage unit. This hybrid installation will provide cleaner and more reliable energy while supporting grid stability.
Emerge is also working alongside the UAE Ministry of Defense and Tabreed to install solar panels at district cooling plants. The initiative involves the deployment of 4,000 panels generating a combined 2.4 MW of solar power. The systems are expected to operate for 25 years and result in a cumulative reduction of approximately 2,600 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.
Furthermore, Emerge played a pivotal role in the development of Sharjah’s first solar power plant—Sana Station. Commissioned in June 2024, the 60 MW plant, located within the Sajaa Gas Complex, spans 850,000 square meters. The project was a collaboration with SNOC and SEWGA, and it has since positioned Sharjah as a rising player in the region’s renewable energy landscape.
Strategic Growth and Sustainable Solutions
Since its formation in 2021, Emerge has focused on delivering distributed solar power, off-grid and hybrid energy systems, and scalable storage solutions. The company currently serves more than 40 clients across the commercial, government, and private sectors, offering complete project delivery—from concept design and financing to installation and operations.
