Egypt is seeking to deepen its partnership with the UAE in electricity and renewable energy as the two countries explore new opportunities for investment and energy-sector development.
Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat met with UAE Ambassador to Cairo Hamad Al Zaabi to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding investment in strategic energy projects.
During the meeting, Esmat praised the longstanding relationship between Egypt and the UAE, highlighting the strong ties between the two countries and their peoples. He also pointed to the growing role of UAE companies in Egypt’s electricity sector, particularly in renewable energy and efforts to diversify the country’s energy mix.
Esmat said cooperation with UAE companies forms part of Egypt’s National Energy Strategy and supports the country’s broader transition towards cleaner energy. The government is seeking to increase the contribution of renewable sources while expanding battery energy storage systems to support grid stability and integrate additional renewable generation.
Egypt Encourages Private Investment
The Egyptian minister also outlined government measures aimed at increasing private-sector participation in solar and wind power projects, as well as battery storage developments.
Discussions also covered plans to upgrade and modernise Egypt’s national electricity grid and expand its capacity to accommodate new power-generation projects.
Esmat emphasised that the government is encouraging private investment to strengthen the sector and support the wider national economy. He noted that private companies are already playing a leading role in the development of solar and wind energy projects across Egypt.
The discussions underline the growing importance of Egypt-UAE cooperation as Egypt works to accelerate renewable-energy deployment, attract private capital and modernise its electricity infrastructure.
