Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Group CEO of ADNOC, brought together a select group of 80 global leaders from the energy, technology, climate, and investment sectors at the ENACT Majlis in Abu Dhabi in an effort to establish sustainable energy partnerships for the expansion of artificial intelligence (AI).
Pay attention to the AI-Energy-Climate Nexus
Recognizing the pressing need for sustainable energy solutions to satisfy the increasing demands of artificial intelligence, the ENACT Majlis sought to develop workable policies that link the technology and energy sectors. AI data center power requirements are expected to double by 2030, highlighting the need for a diverse energy strategy that incorporates gas, nuclear, and renewables.
Demand Infrastructure Improvement and Investment
The necessity of large investments in low-carbon energy infrastructure was discussed by attendees; it is estimated that $600 billion will be needed each year to support AI’s explosive growth. The Majlis emphasized the value of cross-sector collaborations by highlighting AI’s ability to promote energy efficiency while lowering emissions.
International Guidance and Industry Cooperation
To examine AI’s potential to improve energy systems, the event brought together prominent figures such as Shell’s Wael Sawan, Microsoft’s Brad Smith, and EDF’s Luc Remont. Together, they underlined that no one energy source could satisfy the growing need and promoted integrated solutions to fairly and responsibly unleash AI’s promise.
The ENACT Majlis, which took place on the eve of ADIPEC 2024, strengthened Abu Dhabi’s position as a global center for sustainable development and energy innovation.
