Advancing Dubai’s Clean Energy Vision
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has taken another major step towards realizing Dubai’s ambitious clean energy goals through its recent roadshow in the People’s Republic of China. Led by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, the delegation’s visit underscores Dubai’s continued pursuit of its Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net-Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. Both initiatives aim to transform Dubai into a global leader in sustainability, clean energy, and the green economy.
“The roadshow reflects our unwavering commitment to expanding global partnerships and ensuring Dubai remains at the forefront of the renewable energy transition,” said Al Tayer. DEWA’s strategic international outreach is a key component in securing the latest technologies, expertise, and innovations that will help the emirate meet its long-term environmental and economic objectives.
Building Global Partnerships in Solar and Energy Storage
As part of its mission, the DEWA delegation engaged with leading global companies and top research institutions specializing in solar power and energy storage. These collaborations are vital to the successful execution of Dubai’s clean and renewable energy projects, particularly the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park—the largest single-site solar park in the world.
Joining Al Tayer on this key visit were Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence, and Ghanim Alqassim, Senior Manager – Solar Energy at DEWA. Their goal was to explore potential partnerships and technological advancements that can contribute to the ongoing expansion of Dubai’s renewable energy capabilities.
Meetings with Industry Leaders
During the roadshow, DEWA’s delegation held a series of high-level meetings and site visits with some of the world’s most prominent companies in the solar and energy storage sectors. These included discussions with senior executives from leading international firms such as Sungrow, China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC), Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL), Tesla, State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC), and Huawei.
The meetings provided a platform for DEWA to learn about the latest global best practices, emerging technologies, and innovative business models that are shaping the future of clean energy. These insights will play a crucial role in the implementation of upcoming phases of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, as well as in enhancing Dubai’s position as a clean energy and sustainability hub.
Shanghai Forum Highlights DEWA’s Clean Energy Achievements
One of the key highlights of the roadshow was a dedicated forum organized by DEWA in Shanghai. The forum brought together senior officials from major Chinese solar and energy storage companies for a focused discussion on collaboration opportunities.
During the event, DEWA presented the remarkable progress achieved at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park and outlined the roadmap for the development of its seventh phase. The session also featured a dynamic Q&A segment, reinforcing DEWA’s transparent and open approach in engaging with global developers, investors, and technology providers.
Seventh Phase of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park Attracts Global Interest
DEWA’s proactive global engagement has already yielded significant interest from international companies eager to participate in Dubai’s clean energy expansion. A total of 47 global firms have expressed interest in developing the seventh phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park under the independent power producer (IPP) model.
This upcoming phase is poised to be one of the most significant in the park’s history, with a planned capacity of 1,600 megawatts (MW) and potential expansion to 2,000MW. Notably, it will also feature a large-scale battery energy storage system with a capacity of 1,000MW for six hours, providing a total storage capability of 6,000 megawatt-hours. This integration of solar power and battery storage will make it one of the largest solar-plus-storage projects worldwide.
Commissioning Scheduled Between 2027 and 2029
The phased commissioning of the seventh stage is scheduled to take place between 2027 and 2029. Once operational, this phase will make a significant contribution to Dubai’s clean energy targets and reinforce its global leadership in renewable energy innovation.
By leveraging advanced photovoltaic solar panels alongside cutting-edge battery storage technology, Dubai continues to set new benchmarks in the global energy sector. The success of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is not only a testament to Dubai’s forward-looking energy policies but also reflects its ability to attract international expertise and investment.
Dubai’s Continued Leadership in Clean Energy
DEWA’s China roadshow highlights Dubai’s unwavering focus on clean energy innovation, global cooperation, and technology-driven development. As the emirate advances towards its 2050 sustainability goals, such international collaborations will remain a cornerstone of its strategy to build a diversified, resilient, and future-ready energy sector.
With projects like the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park leading the way, Dubai is firmly positioning itself as a global model for sustainable development, clean energy innovation, and responsible environmental stewardship.
