With the topic “Shaping Future Governments,” the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2024, scheduled for February 12–14, has announced Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) as its Sustainable Energy Partner.
DEWA’s MD and CEO Give a Keynote Address on Global Energy Transitions
The managing director and CEO of DEWA, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, will address the importance of research and development, decarbonization tactics, and critical variables influencing energy markets in a keynote address titled “Global Energy Transitions.” He will also discuss the possibilities of renewable and clean energy technologies, such as green hydrogen, which is sometimes referred to as the “fuel of the future.”
Pay Attention to Geopolitical Impact and Energy Storage Solutions
Al Tayer will stress the significance of energy storage options and the improvement of energy efficiency in accordance with the objectives of the global energy transition. Additionally, he will discuss the role that geopolitical forces have in influencing the world energy markets and discuss nuclear fusion, which, despite the difficulties involved in disposing of radioactive waste, is a promising source of clean, potentially limitless energy.
The UAE’s Strategic Net Zero Goals by 2050 and DEWA’s Support for Them
Al Tayer expressed his excitement about DEWA’s collaboration with WGS 2024 and emphasized the UAE’s leadership in the fields of governance and sustainability. In order to attain net zero emissions by 2050, he underlined DEWA’s commitment to speeding the shift to clean and renewable energy sources and driving the shift toward a green economy. This is in line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, and the strategic effort UAE Net Zero by 2050.
Highlighting Prominent Clean and Renewable Energy Initiatives
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, will be on display at the summit as part of DEWA’s participation. Its projected output capacity is 5,000 MW by 2030. Among other ground-breaking endeavors include a 250 MW pumped-storage hydroelectric power facility at Hatta, which is the first of its kind in the Gulf Cooperation Council.
110 Interactive Sessions and Over 4,000 Participants Are Expected at WGS 2024
In 110 interactive sessions, nearly 4,000 people from the public and commercial sectors will come together for the World Governments Summit 2024. The event is scheduled to include 200 speakers from 80 global, regional, and intergovernmental organizations, including the World Bank, the UN, the World Health Organization, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the World Bank, and the Arab League.
Strategic Reports and Nobel Laureates to Be Featured at WGS 2024
In addition, 23 ministerial discussions with over 300 ministers in attendance will be held on the platform of the summit, which will also welcome eight Nobel Prize recipients. The summit will introduce over 25 strategic studies focused on important practices and trends across critical industries in partnership with various knowledge partners.
