Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has approved the second phase of its solar-powered green data centre project located in Warsan, reinforcing Dubai’s commitment to sustainability, clean energy, and digital transformation.
The expansion builds on the success of the first phase, which set new regional benchmarks for energy efficiency and environmentally responsible data infrastructure. The green data centre is powered primarily by renewable energy generated from the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, significantly reducing carbon emissions compared to conventional data facilities.
According to DEWA, the second phase will further enhance the centre’s operational capacity, resilience, and efficiency, supporting the growing demand for secure digital services, smart grid operations, and advanced data management. The facility is designed to achieve some of the world’s lowest Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) rates, making it one of the most energy-efficient data centres globally.
The Warsan green data centre plays a critical role in supporting Dubai’s smart city initiatives and DEWA’s digital platforms, including cloud services, artificial intelligence applications, and big data analytics. It also aligns with the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative and Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050.
DEWA officials emphasized that the project reflects the authority’s long-term vision to integrate sustainability with innovation, ensuring reliable digital infrastructure while minimizing environmental impact. The second phase will also incorporate advanced cooling technologies, intelligent energy management systems, and enhanced cybersecurity measures.
Once completed, the expanded facility is expected to strengthen Dubai’s position as a regional hub for green technology and sustainable digital infrastructure, setting a model for future data centre developments in the Middle East and beyond.
