Recently, HE Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation and CEO of Expo City Dubai Authority, met with HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). The purpose of the gathering was to improve strategic cooperation in sustainability and clean energy. The main topics of discussion were how to use DEWA’s experience to provide top-notch services, implement international best practices, and strengthen the UAE’s standing as a sustainability leader.
Expo City Dubai’s Recognition of DEWA’s Pioneering Efforts
HE Reem Al Hashimy expressed her admiration for DEWA’s contributions to advancing clean energy. She highlighted the authority’s significant role in positioning the UAE as a global advocate for sustainability. The discussion emphasized the importance of joint initiatives in accelerating the global transition to clean energy and achieving shared sustainability goals.
DEWA’s Vision Aligned with Global and National Strategies
Al Tayer provided an overview of DEWA’s vision, strategies, and achievements in renewable energy. These efforts align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030, the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. These frameworks aim for Dubai’s energy production to reach 100% clean energy by 2050, solidifying the UAE’s leadership in renewable energy and sustainability.
Highlighting Groundbreaking Clean Energy Projects
Key projects like the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park were spotlighted during the meeting. The solar park, the largest single-site solar project globally, boasts a total commissioned capacity of 2,860 MW using photovoltaic (PV) and Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) technologies. Once fully operational, it is projected to reduce over 6.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually, with clean energy comprising 27% of Dubai’s total energy production by 2030.
UAE’s Commitment to Net-Zero Emissions
Al Tayer reaffirmed DEWA’s commitment to supporting Dubai’s net-zero emissions target by 2050. He emphasized the UAE’s innovative approaches to tackling climate and environmental challenges, underlining the collaboration between DEWA and Expo City Dubai as a pivotal step in achieving these ambitious sustainability goals.
Strengthening the UAE’s Global Leadership in Sustainability
“The UAE continues to lead globally in sustainability and clean energy, guided by the vision of our leadership. The strategic cooperation between DEWA and Expo City Dubai represents a significant milestone in our efforts to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050,” said Al Tayer.
This partnership underscores the UAE’s ongoing commitment to fostering innovation, driving clean energy initiatives, and enhancing its global leadership in sustainable development.
