ISLAMABAD: A major Chinese corporation, Hebei Juhang Energy Technology Group, has shown strong interest in establishing a large-scale solar panel manufacturing facility in Pakistan. The proposed plant is expected to cater not only to Pakistan’s growing domestic energy needs but also to international export markets.
A high-level Chinese delegation led by the Group’s Chairman, Wang Jianbin, along with members of the China-Pakistan Business Forum, met with the Minister for the Board of Investment (BoI), Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, on Tuesday. During the meeting, the delegation expressed intentions to invest billions of dollars in Pakistan’s solar energy sector as well as other advanced technological industries.
Minister Sheikh welcomed the initiative, describing it as a “golden opportunity” for Pakistan. He emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing the investment climate and highlighted reforms recently introduced by the prime minister, including the single-window Business Facilitation Centre to streamline business processes.
As part of its facilitation offer, the BoI informed the delegation that the government is ready to allocate 6,000 acres of land for the project. The minister also shared details on Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs), which provide attractive incentives such as a 10-year income tax exemption for investors.
Minister Sheikh also pointed out positive signs of economic recovery, noting the significant growth in the stock market over the past year. He further stated that sectors including agriculture, solar energy, information technology, chemicals and manufacturing hold immense potential for foreign investment and exports.
The discussion also covered progress from the second Pakistan-China B2B Investment Conference held in Beijing earlier this year, which resulted in agreements and joint ventures worth $8.5 billion across priority sectors.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s strong partnership with China, the minister assured full support to incoming Chinese investors and emphasized the importance of accelerating feasibility studies and joint-venture frameworks.
He concluded by noting that Pakistan welcomes high-quality, sustainable, and green technology investments that will contribute to employment generation and long-term economic growth.
