Bupa Arabia for Cooperative Insurance has released its 2024 Sustainability Report, showcasing notable progress across environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and sustainable resource management. The report reflects a comprehensive institutional approach that integrates quality healthcare, environmental protection, and human development, aligning closely with Saudi Vision 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The report highlights how sustainability is embedded into Bupa Arabia’s business model, emphasizing its impact on communities, the environment, employees, partners, and beneficiaries. This approach is supported by measurable performance indicators that demonstrate the company’s long-term commitment to creating lasting and responsible value.

Environmental Performance

Environmental sustainability was a central focus of Bupa Arabia’s 2024 efforts. The company recorded a 58% reduction in diesel consumption and a 64% decrease in refrigerant gas usage, significantly lowering its carbon footprint and improving energy efficiency across operations. These achievements support the objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative.

In addition, Bupa Arabia partnered with the NABATIK initiative to plant trees capable of offsetting approximately 110 tCO₂e annually. The company also eliminated more than 150,000 single-use plastic bottles, reinforcing its commitment to waste reduction, natural resource conservation, and the promotion of a cleaner environment.

Social Responsibility and Community Care

Bupa Arabia continued its long-standing commitment—spanning over ten years—to supporting orphans throughout the Kingdom. In 2024, healthcare coverage was extended to more than 2,400 orphans in 13 cities, with nearly 9,500 medical requests processed to ensure uninterrupted access to quality healthcare services.

These initiatives reflect the company’s dedication to health equity and social inclusion, reinforcing its belief that healthcare is a fundamental pillar of community well-being and a core component of corporate social responsibility.

Promoting Healthy Lifestyles

As part of its efforts to encourage active and healthy living, Bupa Arabia organized the Bupa Marathon—one of its most impactful community initiatives. The event motivated thousands of participants across multiple cities to adopt healthier lifestyles.

Beyond the race itself, the marathon served as an awareness platform for preventive healthcare, featuring wellness booths, medical screenings, consultations, and family-friendly activities focused on fitness, mobility, and chronic disease prevention. This initiative highlights Bupa Arabia’s commitment to building a culture of proactive health within Saudi society.

Leadership and Sustainability Vision

Commenting on the report, Tal Nazer, CEO of Bupa Arabia, stated that the 2024 Sustainability Report reflects the company’s continued dedication to people, society, and the environment. He emphasized pride in supporting orphans, empowering women, and advancing healthcare innovation while maintaining environmentally responsible healthcare services.

He further noted that sustainability is an ongoing journey rather than a final goal, underscoring Bupa Arabia’s vision to develop a trusted and innovative healthcare ecosystem that balances economic growth with social responsibility, while helping people across the Kingdom live longer, healthier, and happier lives.

Human Capital and Workplace Development

The report highlights Bupa Arabia’s progress in building a diverse and inclusive workplace. Women represented 42% of the workforce and received 44% of promotions during the year, reflecting a strong commitment to equal opportunity and women’s empowerment.

The company achieved a nationalization rate of 85.41% and delivered more than 150,000 training hours. These included advanced leadership programs in collaboration with leading global academic institutions such as MIT and Columbia University. Initiatives like the Nurturing Talent Program and the Learning Hub supported the professional development of over 1,000 employees.

Youth Empowerment and Employee Well-being

Bupa Arabia recorded an employee engagement score of 89%, exceeding global benchmarks, while maintaining zero workplace injuries for the fourth consecutive year—demonstrating its strong focus on occupational health, safety, and employee well-being.

The company also invested in youth empowerment initiatives, including life-skills development programs, interview preparation for orphans, and workforce readiness initiatives designed to build confidence, ambition, and employability among young people.

Digital Healthcare Innovation

As part of its digital transformation strategy, Bupa Arabia continued to expand its integrated healthcare model through Bupa CareConnect. This platform combines digital clinics, chronic care management, and home healthcare services into a unified ecosystem.

In 2024, digital healthcare services reached more than one million beneficiaries, improving access to care, easing pressure on healthcare facilities, and strengthening preventive healthcare through advanced digital solutions. The platform enables smarter, simpler, and more sustainable healthcare delivery anytime and anywhere.

Recognition and Industry Leadership

Bupa Arabia’s sustainability achievements earned regional and international recognition during 2024, including prestigious awards such as Employer of the Year (CIPD MENA) and Best Insurance Brand (Insuretek 2024). These accolades reflect the company’s leadership in employee engagement, innovation, and responsible healthcare delivery.
