A historic deal worth over $700 million has been revealed by Saudi energy company Acwa Power to finance the planning, building, running and upkeep of a massive wind power plant in Egypt. The SAR2.63 billion ($703 million) deal is a component of a 20-year senior loan plan supported by a group of global development financial institutions. The financing demonstrates the international interest in African renewable energy projects.
Africa’s Biggest Upcoming Wind Farm
With a 1.1GW capacity, the project—which is situated in the Suez Governorate of Egypt—will be the biggest wind power facility in Africa. An estimated SAR4.13 billion will be spent on the entire development. This milestone was declared on the Saudi stock exchange, where the venture is publicly traded, by Acwa Power, which owns 70% of the company.
