Strategic Extension of Renewable Energy Projects in Important Areas
A historic $1.8 billion (Dh6.6 billion) investment in battery storage and renewable energy projects spanning the GCC, China, Central Asia, and North Africa has been announced by ACWA electricity, the electricity and water business of Saudi Arabia. These agreements highlight ACWA Power’s dedication to sustainable energy solutions and its expanding influence in the global renewable energy sector. They were obtained during the Future Investment Initiative conference in Riyadh.
Significant Financial Arrangements Supporting Renewable Energy Initiatives
The first significant arrangement is a partnership with the National Bank of Kuwait and is worth $690 million (Dh2.5 billion). The project pipeline of ACWA Power in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and other regional target markets will be fueled by this finance. The project’s objectives are to increase the production of renewable energy and develop sustainable energy infrastructure in these regions.
Shariah-Compliant Funding for Uzbek Solar Projects
The second significant agreement is a $240 million (Dh881 million) equity bridge loan from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a division of the World Bank Group, that complies with shariah. In addition to 334 MW of battery energy storage systems (BESS), this funding will directly assist two solar photovoltaic projects in Uzbekistan, Sazagan 1 and Sazagan 2, each of which is expected to have a 500 MW capacity. A major stride forward for Uzbekistan’s renewable energy development is anticipated when these projects begin commercial operations between the third quarter of 2025 and the fourth quarter of 2026.
The Growing Global Reach of ACWA Power’s Renewable Investments
With a portfolio of assets totaling around $94 billion (Dh345 billion) across 15 countries, ACWA Power is a major player in the global energy market and is supported by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. This latest round of agreements strengthens the company’s position as a pioneer in sustainable energy transitions on several continents and demonstrates its strategic ambition of growing renewable energy capacities in emerging countries.
