Masdar City’s Executive Director of Sustainable Development, Mohamed Al Breiki, provided information about the city’s accomplishments:

Investments Driving the Development of Smart Cities
By 2025, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia intend to invest $50 billion in smart city initiatives, according to Frost & Sullivan. Through creative approaches to resource optimization and energy management, these investments hope to completely transform urban living.
With programs like the Estidama Pearl Rating system, which is in line with its Economic Vision 2030, Abu Dhabi is spearheading this change. A first for the Middle East, the city was also named one of the Top 10 Smart Cities in the 2024 Smart City Index. By implementing initiatives like Dubai Walk, which aims to increase pedestrian mobility by 25% by 2040, Dubai is also furthering its smart city agenda.
