DUBAI — The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE), in collaboration with Presight, unveiled the new visual identity and development roadmap for its groundbreaking digital platform, AD.WE, during GITEX Global 2025. The launch marks a major leap forward in the UAE’s drive toward sustainable, AI-driven energy and water management.
The announcement took place in the presence of Dr. Abdullah Hamid Al Jarwan, Chairman of the DoE; Mansour Al Mansouri, Vice Chairman of Presight; and Thomas Pramotedham, CEO of Presight. The unveiling featured a live demonstration of AD.WE’s capabilities at the Abu Dhabi Government Pavilion, where visitors interacted with a dynamic dashboard highlighting real-time data and analytics.
Revolutionizing Resource Management
AD.WE — short for Abu Dhabi Water and Energy — is described as a world-first, AI-powered digital platform that integrates energy and water networks into a single, intelligent ecosystem. By uniting billions of live and historical grid records inside a secure, UAE-hosted cloud, the system gives operators a comprehensive, real-time view of Abu Dhabi’s entire utility landscape.
The platform uses advanced AI algorithms to detect efficiency opportunities early, delivering up to 30 percent water savings, 20 percent energy savings, and financial benefits exceeding AED 100 million annually. Beyond conservation, the system enhances grid stability, reduces service disruptions, and supports the emirate’s long-term sustainability goals.
Powered entirely by carbon-free electricity, AD.WE will eventually expand to include district cooling and petroleum products, further integrating Abu Dhabi’s utilities ecosystem. Once fully implemented by 2035, the platform is projected to save 160 million cubic metres of water annually—enough to fill more than 64,000 Olympic swimming pools—and 1.9 terawatt-hours of electricity, sufficient to power over 37,000 homes each year.
A New Standard for Smart Utilities
Speaking at the event, Dr. Al Jarwan praised the initiative as a landmark in the digital transformation of the energy sector.
“From its leading position in the energy and water sector, and through the AD.WE platform, Abu Dhabi is delivering a first-of-its-kind solution that advances sustainability, energy efficiency, and digital transformation,” he said. “Powered by AI and 100 percent carbon-free electricity, AD.WE strengthens energy and water resilience and supports Abu Dhabi’s strategic framework for utilities, charting a clear course toward a secure and sustainable future.”
Driving Innovation Through AI
The DoE’s showcase at GITEX featured five pioneering AI applications already in use, including farm irrigation optimisation, intelligent leak detection, consumption intelligence, network planning, and anomaly detection. These early use cases demonstrate the platform’s capacity to reduce water and power consumption by up to 10 percent, improve grid reliability, and streamline infrastructure planning.
Another major reveal was the activation of “AI Lab as a Service,” a feature within AD.WE that supports advanced projects such as solar and demand forecasting, simulation intelligence, and cross-sector AI agents. This function will allow researchers and engineers to experiment with new use cases and accelerate innovation across Abu Dhabi’s energy and water sectors.

A Phased Roadmap for the Future
The Department also outlined a three-phase development roadmap for AD.WE, emphasizing scalability and long-term vision:
- Phase One (2025): Capability verification — establishing and validating the platform’s core functions.
- Phase Two (2025–2026): Full rollout — expanding integration to include district cooling and petroleum products.
- Phase Three (by GITEX 2026): Advanced AI integration — incorporating next-generation, agentic AI models to drive further efficiency and innovation.
This structured approach ensures that AD.WE evolves in alignment with Abu Dhabi’s strategic goals for sustainable growth, operational efficiency, and digital excellence.

As one of the most ambitious digital transformation projects in the utilities sector, AD.WE underscores Abu Dhabi’s leadership in sustainable innovation and its commitment to achieving the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy and the Energy and Water Efficiency Strategy 2030.
